Despite a fine performance by first baseman Curtis Hopkins, the Wasilla Sledge Dogs lost to the Akutan Island Eagles, 8-7. Hopkins went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4. At 11-18, Akutan Island is in last place in the Alaskan League Klondike.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Akutan Island trailing 7-6, Ángel Machado hit a changeup from Phil Owbridge to center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Eagles had a walk-off win.
"I hope this win gives us a jumpstart," said Machado.
