Coqui Nip Hitmen, 2-1
|
In a tight game between the New Jersey Hitmen and the San Juan Coqui, nobody was more important for the winners than Gerald Contaldo. Contaldo was masterful in the 2-1 win. Alberto Salazar got the win, improving to 8-11. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 2 and walking 1. The Coqui, at 66-74, sit in 4th place in the Imperial League Trans Atlantic.
Contaldo had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-0 fastball from Yasuoka Seki, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Coqui a 2-1 lead. It was the 18th home run of the year for Contaldo.
"Good win for us," said Contaldo. "We'll lace up our cleats and go after the next one."
