Grunts Get 6-2 Win Versus Kivalina
|
Fairbanks Grunts starter Okura Arai kept the Kivalina Bowheads hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 6-2 win. Arai, the winner, moves to 9-1. He threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. John Bartlett closed the door for Fairbanks, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Fairbanks shortstop Chet Smith contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a changeup into right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 61st hit of the season and put the Grunts ahead, 2-0.
Smith attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
Fairbanks, now 33-25, holds down third place in the Alaskan League Klondike.
