Oilers Rally For Late Win Over Chinook
|
The Long Beach Oilers got a magnificent effort from pitcher Carlos Sánchez, who kept Portland hitters in check en route to a 2-0 Oilers win at Kauffman Stadium. Sánchez, the winner, moves to 12-7. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 1 and giving up 1 walk. Hayden Rudder notched his 18th save in 19 chances.
Runs were few and far between in this one. So, Roberto García's at-bat with one out in the top of the eighth was crucial. The Long Beach left fielder hit a sacrifice fly, to give his team a 1-0 lead.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Sánchez said.
Long Beach raised its record to 70-49 with the win.
