Hoops Lose Late, 9-7
|
Hilo third baseman Eugen Lang had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Lang went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs, even as Kilauea beat the Hoops, 9-7. Don Cooper, now 1-1, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 3 and walking 0. Toby Goacher was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Kilauea used a clutch hit from Rusty Wood to get the win. The right fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Volcanoes ahead, 9-6. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Wood said.
The Volcanoes, now 4-9, have not found much traction so far in 2039.
