Lorenzo Castaneda could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Kobayashi Fireflies lost, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Mokule'ia Oceanic at Blacksnakes Ballpark. Martín Ramos, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-1. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 1 hits and no runs, while striking out 3 and walking 4. Lyndon Marshland collected his 2nd save.
Mokule'ia used the timely hitting of Norris Hopkins to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Oceanic on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Hopkins attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
The loss drops the Fireflies to 10-9.
