Deltas Cut Down Orcas, 5-3
|
The Sacramento Deltas topped the Victoria Orcas, 5-3, in Humboldt action at Saint Petersburg Grounds. The standout performance belonged to Sacramento pitcher and Alquízar, Cuba, native José Valdéz. In 5.1 innings, Valdéz surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 11 and walking 6. He allowed 3 runs. At 74-54, the Deltas claim second place in the Humboldt.
Sacramento used a well-timed hit by Álex Heredia to capture the win. The second baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Deltas ahead, 4-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
In postgame comments to the Sacramento Times, Valdéz said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
