The Union City HS Hillers faced a tough opponent in Sarasota HS pitcher Duane Erickson, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Union City HS & Athletic Complex by a final score of 2-0. Erickson went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winner in relief was Dana Patton. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.1 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Union City HS is now 23-19.
The Sailors had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Hillers going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 16-year old shortstop Ralph Boucher came to the plate. Boucher hit a 2-run home run on a 0-1 changeup from Sarasota HS hurler Duane Erickson. It was Boucher's 4th home run of the year.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Boucher said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
