Farstriders Edge Past Lions, 3-2
|
The Amsterdam Lions got a sterling performance from pitcher Richard Neely, but the Florida Farstriders still prevailed, 3-2. Neely threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Bob Burns snagged the win in relief. In 3 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on no hits. He's now 5-0 on the season. The Farstriders go to 116-29, putting them first in the Imperial League Dixie.
The outcome might have been different for Florida, had it not been for Michael Roberts, the five-time All-Star . Roberts stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put Florida up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 6, including 1 double and 1 single.
"It was a test of wills," said Dave Robertson, the Florida skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
