Crows Deal Taniwha 6-5 Loss
|
The Tauranga Taniwha got a superb performance from center fielder Lúcio Serrano, but the Wagga Wagga Crows still won the game, 6-5. Serrano went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Ernesto Vélez got the win, improving to 2-1. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Munro Torr recorded his 10th save for Wagga Wagga.
Wagga Wagga used the bat of Jesús Alfaro to get the win. The left fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Crows ahead, 6-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Wagga Wagga manager Ricardo Pérez.
The Crows move to 20-7 with the win, while the Taniwha drop to 5-22.
