Tauranga Taniwha starter Mark Thompson was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Sunshine Coast Crocodile Hunters, 4-3. In 6.1 innings, Thompson surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs. Ed Lowry, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.

The Taniwha beat the Crocodile Hunters with some clutch hitting. The single by Theo Slipper in the top of the seventh is a good example. With two down, Slipper gave his team the lead, 4-3, when he came through with the big hit.

After the game, Tauranga manager Baden Tamburrino applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.

Tauranga is now 7-24.
