Both teams had their chances, but the Tauranga Taniwha eventually prevailed.

Tauranga starter Puck Huysmans put a stranglehold on the Brisbane offense. The left-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Taniwha to a 1-0 win. Crespín Gonzáles, now 1-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 1. Ed Lowry got the save, the 2nd for him this season.

Tauranga used the timely hitting of José Medina to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Taniwha on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"I was a little disappointed," said Brisbane manager Joe O'Sullivan. "We could've and should've scored more runs."

Tauranga, with the win, sits at 10-29.
