The first-place Melbourne Bitters took on the Tauranga Taniwha in front of a spirited crowd.

Starting pitcher Douggie Tunstall pitched well enough to help the Melbourne Bitters beat the Tauranga Taniwha, 6-3. Augusto Vallejo, now 3-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Katsuhiko Hashimoto got the save, the 10th for him this season.

Had Lorenzo Moreno not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Moreno hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Bitters.

"I found a nice groove out there," said Tunstall.

Melbourne, at 29-13, occupies first place in the Intercontinental Baseball Coalition Tasman League.
