The Tauranga Taniwha beat the Wagga Wagga Crows, 4-2, at Tetsunori Koike Field. The win was due in part to right fielder Pedro Mendoza, who was 3-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Frank Sparks, 1-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. Ronald Pittman earned his 12th save in 18 tries.
José Medina provided a timely hit. The Tauranga shortstop delivered a run-scoring triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Taniwha on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
Medina called the win "a collective effort."
Even with the win, the Taniwha have a dismal 31-59 record.
