Warriors Lose to Badgers, 4-3
|
The Kalamazoo Badgers topped the Duluth Warriors, 4-3, in Sovereign League action at Portage Park. The standout performance belonged to Kalamazoo pitcher and Funabashi, Japan, native Tetsui Suzuki. Suzuki picked up the win for Kalamazoo, going 7 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 8 hits. He now sports a record of 7-7. Kalamazoo is second in the Sovereign League Great Lakes with a record of 58-46.
Tied up with the Warriors in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Badgers got a boost from center fielder Francisco Rodríguez. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Rodríguez saw a 1-1 splitter from Michael Doyle and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Kalamazoo on top, 4-3.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Suzuki said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
