Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Kingpins
|
Iowa City and Racine got after it at Laker Stadium.
The Iowa City Kingpins defeated the Racine Lakers, 4-2. Doing his part was third baseman Alec Griffith, who was 2 for 2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times. Iowa City reliever Ning-qing Tan got the win, raising his record to 5-5. Pamphile Barbadori was tagged with the loss. Getting the save was António Patino, his 4th.
Iowa City used the timely hitting of Augusto Rangel to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Kingpins on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Bottom line," said Racine skipper Noburo Kurihara, "we didn't play well enough to win."
Iowa City, now 43-80, holds down 4th place in the Rocky Mountain League North.
