Road Win Lifts Stanford to 1-0 Lead in R1
The Stanford Axe started the Regionals in style today, winning on the road against the Marshall McConaugheys at McConaugheys Ballpark by a score of 5-2 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Axe catcher Mike Rodríguez excelled. He went 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.

The Axe took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Facing Marshall hurler Tom Morales with one out, Rodríguez hit a 2-run double.

"Every team in baseball loses," McConaugheys manager Jiro Heida said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at McConaugheys Ballpark in Huntington.
