Beaufort Wins at Home to Narrow Series Deficit to 3-1
|
The Beaufort Loggerdoggers nearly wasted a strong game from starter Erik Watson, but were saved by some timely hitting in a walk-off win over the Maine Lobsters today.
Watson was exceptional in the 2-1 win at Loggerdoggers Ballpark. He threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The win allowed Beaufort to cut the Maine lead in the best-of-7 series to 1-3.
In the bottom of the ninth, with no one out and the game tied, 1-1, designated hitter Bernardo Aguilar won it for Beaufort. With the bases loaded, Aguilar hit a first pitch fastball from John Murphy for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 2-1 win.
"Someone different steps up for us each time out," said John Mayer, the Beaufort skipper.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Loggerdoggers Ballpark in Beaufort.
