Dons Win to Extend Series Lead to 3-0
|
A sweep is in sight.
The Clifton Dons overcame a spirited performance by Mansfield third baseman Melvin Gaskins to knock off the Mohicans, 3-2, at Clifton Stadium in Game 3 of the Championship. Gaskins went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once but could not will the Mohicans to victory. Clifton now sits on a 3-0 advantage and has its eyes on sweeping the best-of-7 series.
In the bottom of the fourth, Norris Allen delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and runners on 1st and 3rd, the Clifton catcher hit a run-scoring single, putting the Dons in front, 3-2.
"The vibe's good," said Clifton manager Ken Hooper. "We've got to keep it going."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Clifton Stadium in Jersey City.
