Akron got a terrific game from left fielder Yoshida Chikafuji. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Joplin, 6-5. Chikafuji belted 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Joplin, at 17-19, sits in 4th place in the Appalachian Mountain League Central.

The Red Racers relied on second baseman Brooks Thomas for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the tenth, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.

"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Art Gordon.
