Newport News Anchormen starter Mark Stanford pitched a strong game against the Chesapeake Bay Oysters at Anchormen Stadium, leading the Anchormen to victory, 2-1. The last-place Anchormen are 24-52.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 17th inning, when Newport News left fielder Benjamin Darke, facing Raúl Bruno, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Anchormen the 2-1 win.

"This win should put a little bounce in our step," said Darke.
