Tri-Staters Knock Off Anchormen, 5-2
|
Evansville and Newport News got after it at Anchormen Stadium.
The Newport News Anchormen got a superb performance from pitcher Dave Reyes. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Evansville. The Tri-Staters won the game, 5-2. Reyes threw 8.0 innings allowing 4 runs. Evansville reliever Kyu-cheol Na was the winner. His record is now 5-2. Dave Reyes took the loss. Sen Fukuda sewed up the save, his 12th.
Evansville used the timely hitting of Roberto López to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Tri-Staters on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," López told the Evansville Times. "Whatever it takes."
Evansville, at 68-63, occupies third place in the Appalachian Mountain League Central.
