Thrilling Walk-Off Win for Locomotives
|
The Joplin Red Racers wasted an inspired, 8.1-inning effort from starter William Kerr, falling 2-1 to the Leeds Locomotives at Rhino Park. Leeds reliever Sergio Ramírez picked up the win, raising his record to 4-4. Gilberto Flores was tagged with the loss. Leeds now sits in last place in the Appalachian Mountain League Europe and Islands at 46-91.
Leeds won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. With two outs and Gilberto Flores on the mound for Joplin, left fielder Ángelo Álvarez hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Locomotives fans to their feet.
"On the outside I was calm," said Locomotives manager Michael Wallen. "But inside I was a nervous wreck."
