The Shin Seiki Evas overcame a fine performance by Bakersfield shortstop Yong-hong Gui to defeat the Bears, 5-4, at The Oaks at Aera Field. Gui was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner was Shin Seiki reliever Jordan Morgan, now 3-0. The loser was Don Darragh. The loss lowers the Bakersfield record to 9-14.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Ryo Takahashi came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Bakersfield pitcher António Sandoval, he hit a full count curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Shin Seiki on top, 5-4.

"Enjoyed this one," Takahashi told the Shin Seiki Bulletin. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
