Warriors Sneak By Akira, 5-4
|
The Duluth Warriors faced a tough opponent in Neo-Tokyo pitcher Sergio Sánchez, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Neo-Tokyo Grounds by a final score of 5-4. Sánchez went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs. Duluth pitcher Gary Murphy got the win. He's now 2-2. Jack Lynch was tagged with the loss. Guo-fang Hsi recorded the save for Duluth, his 7th of the season.
Duluth used the timely hitting of Juan Velásquez to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Warriors on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Velásquez told the Duluth Citizen.
The Akira, now 9-18, continue their inauspicious start.
