Bears Fell Rushmores, 6-3

A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Birmingham Bears and Rapid City Rushmores.
The 6-3 Birmingham win over Rapid City was due largely to Samuel Lapthorne. The Bears center fielder went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times. Alonso Martínez earned the win for Birmingham. He lasted 6.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 1-1.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Bears had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the second, when first baseman Raúl Hernández hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Don Kennedy and made the score 2-0, Bears. Hernández went 1-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch.
"We'll hit the hot tub in good spirits tonight," said Lapthorne.
Rapid City, with the loss, is 3-3.
