Merida turned a good effort from starter Cristián Delanoval into a win over the Ciudad Juarez Velas at Velas Ballpark. The final score was 1-0. Pedro Hogeda snagged the win in relief. In 2 innings, the left-hander allowed no runs on no hits. He's now 1-0 on the season. The save went to Manny Rodríguez, his 1st this season.
Merida used the timely hitting of Robinson Sánchez to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Adelantados on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Delanoval.
Ciudad Juarez, with the loss, is 2-2.
