Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Monterey Sea Lions and the Inverness Highlanders. Monterey won it, 2-0. Monterey starter Mayer Wiegand was in command. It could have been a different outcome for Monterey, had it not been for José Sosa, the 21-year old second baseman . Sosa contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put Monterey up, 1-0.

"Sometimes a win comes easy," Sosa told the Monterey Herald. "And sometimes you have to scratch and claw."
