The Middle Bass Vintners topped the Birmingham Bears, 9-2, with youngster Akke Davids playing a key role. Davids was 3-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 and driving in 4 for the Vintners in the win. Ivano Gramsci, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-2. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 4 and walking 3. The win puts Middle Bass at 38-14 this season.
In the top of the first of a scoreless game, Davids hit a 3-run home run to put his team ahead.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Davids told the Middle Bass Observer.
