Olympians Beat Magami, 3-2
|
Magami got a valiant performance from pitcher Ramón Núñez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Nagano Olympians. Nagano won the game, 3-2. Núñez threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Shawn Pope sewed up the save, his 2nd. The loss drops Magami to 2-4.
Nagano got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Peer Talboom. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Olympians ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Talboom told the Nagano Today. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
