Klondikes Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Confederates, 3-2
|
The UCONN Klondikes gave their fans something to talk about with a thrilling, walk-off win.
The UCONN Klondikes had to overcome a good performance from Southern Miss pitcher Keith Russell to claim a 3-2 win at Klondikes Ballpark. Russell went 6.2 innings and allowed no runs. UCONN reliever Wendell Morris picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Nate Gil shouldered the loss.
The knockout blow came in the bottom of the 11th inning. That's when catcher Lúcio Rúbio stepped to the plate with runners on 1st and 2nd and hit a run-scoring single, to win the ballgame.
"There's nothing like the buzz of a walk-off win," Rúbio said.
UCONN now has a record of 1-1.
