Alabama-Birmingham Grounds was the site for United States Collegiate Baseball Association action featuring the UAB Dragons and Houston Shastas.
Houston starter Bill Carrillo put a stranglehold on the UAB offense. The right-hander had complete command of his slider in leading the Shastas to a 3-0 win. Rod Walker saved it for Houston.
Houston used the bat of Juan Rodríguez to capture the win. The left fielder jacked a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Shastas ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
Carrillo pitched well, despite being a bit under the weather. "To be honest, I was sick before the game," he said. "Just a stomach bug."
UAB, with the loss, is 1-2.
