Scarlet Brutes Win in Extras, 2-1
|
The California Campaniles wasted an inspired, 6.1-inning effort from starter Pepe Casas, falling 2-1 to the Ohio State Scarlet Brutes at Ballpark of California. Ohio State reliever António Domínguez picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Calvin Woodard was tagged with the loss. Rich Roberts sewed up the save, his 1st.
Ohio State used the timely hitting of Greg Wolfe to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 15th inning to put the Scarlet Brutes on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"That's baseball," said California manager Fred Hogan. "You're not always going to be hitting on all cylinders."
Ohio State is now 2-3.
