Wicked Witches Topple Dambusters, 8-3
|
Central Florida picked up a win at Ballpark of Oregon State, bumping off the Oregon State Dambusters, 8-3. Pitcher Jim Gates was a major reason the Wicked Witches emerged victorious. Gates, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 2 walks. The Wicked Witches go to 6-11, putting them 8th in the American Heartland Conference.
Central Florida used the bat of Billy Robertson to capture the win. The third baseman jacked a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Wicked Witches ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"There are times you get yourself out and there are times you come through," Robertson said. "That's how it goes."
