The Houston Shastas had to overcome a fine effort from Iowa pitcher António López to grab a narrow 2-0 win at Shastas Ballpark. López went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Zane Pérez earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.1 innings. His record is now 2-2. Earning his 6th save of the year was Rod Walker.

Houston took the lead in the bottom of the seventh on a big hit from Michael Hayes. On a 1-0 fastball from António López, Hayes hit a solo home run. That made it 1-0, Shastas. For the day, Hayes was 1-3 with a home run.

"The old adage is true," said Hayes. "Good pitching stops good hitting."

Houston is now 15-9, Iowa 12-12.
