Gilberto Martínez had a good game, but he could not keep the Washington State Palouse Knights from falling, 4-2, to the Illinois Chiefs at Chiefs Ballpark. The Washington State center fielder went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk in the loss. Kelly Lewis sewed up the save, his 3rd. The Chiefs raised their record to 9-15.

Illinois grabbed control in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, Carlos Ponsantiago delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 2-1 in favor of the Chiefs.

"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Ponsantiago told the Illinois Chronicle. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."
