The Houston Shastas picked up a win at Ballpark of Washington State, knocking off the Washington State Palouse Knights, 5-0. Starting pitcher Lance Simmons played a key role in the triumph. Simmons, the winner, moves to 3-1. He threw 6.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk.

Houston used the bat of Wayne Mitchell to get the win. The right fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Shastas ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.

Mitchell told the Houston Chronicle: "Don't care what other people think. Wayne knows who Wayne is."
