Chili Peppers Top Pride to Even Record
|
UCLA Chili Peppers starter Matt Mayer was in fine form as he helped his team beat the Penn State Pride, 5-1. The winning pitcher was Mayer, now 4-3. He tossed 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 4. Mike Martin got credit for the save for UCLA. It was his 15th of the year.
Dave Wilson had a big solo home run for the Chili Peppers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With UCLA leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he got a cutter from Tsuginori Sato and swatted a home run to left. It was his 5th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Chili Peppers ahead, 3-1.
"It feels good to get this one," Wilson told the UCLA Observer.
UCLA raised its record to 27-27 with the win.
