Virus Defeat Shmoes, 5-4
|
The home team gave their fans plenty to cheer about, with a thrilling walk-off win.
The El Cajon Virus faced a tough opponent in Mexicali pitcher Ánibal Gallegos, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Ballpark of El Cajon by a final score of 5-4. Gallegos went 6.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. The Virus improve their record to 25-11 with the win over Mexicali.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 14th inning, when El Cajon second baseman Jorge Cruz, facing Eppe Dirks, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Virus the 5-4 win.
"We didn't go down without a fight," said Mexicali manager Hidehira Ine.
