Rivera Stars in 7-0 Mariachis Win
|
The Ciudad Acuna Mariachis defeated the San Luis Potosi Jardineros, 7-0. Doing his part was designated hitter Ángel Rivera, who was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. José Vega got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 6.1 innings. Roberto Serrano got the save, the 1st for him this season.
The Mariachis got a big boost from second baseman Alfredo Cabrera who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off Jardineros hurler Edgardo Flores. It was his 5th walk of the season and put Ciudad Acuna on top, 1-0.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Rivera told a Ciudad Acuna Chronicle reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
The Mariachis go to 10-15, putting them 7th in the Zona Sur.
