Oilers Topple Loggers with Late Rally
|
The Long Beach Oilers did just enough to sneak past the Tacoma Loggers, 4-3, at Ballpark of Queens. Long Beach pitcher Juan Jose Machado, in particular, had a standout performance. Machado, now 2-1, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. The 5th-place Loggers have lost 5 consecutive games.
Raúl Costello was the walk-off hero for Long Beach. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Oilers designated hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"We try to keep the mood light around here," said Machado. "Winning helps."
