Behind a solid performance from right fielder Li Caporn, the Tempe Apollos defeated the Aurora Borealis, 5-4. Caporn went 2-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Apollos. Will Taylor, who went 5 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 7 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 13-9. Norm Batstone picked up the save for Tempe, his 3rd of the year.
Caporn contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Tempe in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 4-3, Caporn took a fastball from Henry Cluett and stroked the home run to left-center. His 22nd home run of the season allowed the Apollos to leap in front, 5-4.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Aurora manager Michel Provost. "But we decided not to take it."
The second-place Apollos sport a record of 74-61.
