Ciudad Juarez Velas starter Ricardo Sousa worked his magic, as he helped his team defeat the Leon Zapateros, 2-1. The win was credited to José Vargas in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Xavier Gómez took the loss. Sergio Castillo got credit for the save for Ciudad Juarez. It was his 2nd of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Alfonso Rivera came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Leon pitcher Xavier Gómez, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Ciudad Juarez on top, 2-1.
"Runs were at a premium," said Ciudad Juarez manager Tomás Costa.
The Velas saw their win-loss record go to 47-52. At the same time, the Zapateros fell to 42-57.
