Rafael Ruíz was a calming influence out of the Thornton Sun Dogs bullpen this season.

His teammates and manager said he had a poised demeanor about him that was typical of someone much older and more experienced. His poise has paid off, as the 25-year-old turned in a sparkling season and has been named the winner of the Rocky Mountain League Reliever of the Year Award for 2038.

The Tijuana, Mexico native won the award with 3 saves in 26 relief appearances, 90 strikeouts in 85.1 innings and a record of 7-6 to go with his 2.00 ERA.

He received 15 first place votes out of a possible 32. Ben Brown of the Iowa City Kingpins finished second in voting with 16 first place votes, while Fernando Ramos of the Lincoln Emancipation finished third with 1 first place vote.
