USCBA COL Hands Out Reliever of the Year Award

Orlando López was a calming influence out of the Northwestern Purple Haze bullpen this season.

His teammates and manager said he had a poised demeanor about him that was typical of someone much older and more experienced. His poise has paid off, as the 19-year-old turned in a sparkling season and has been named the winner of the United States Collegiate Baseball Association Reliever of the Year Award for 2039.

The Madisonville, Kentucky native won the award with 21 saves in 28 relief appearances, 43 strikeouts in 33.2 innings and a record of 3-1 to go with his 0.53 ERA.

He received 17 first place votes out of a possible 40. Tom Lee of the Marshall McConaugheys finished second in voting with 17 first place votes, while Gerald Morgan of the Illinois Chiefs finished third with 6 first place votes.
