Gone Again! 3 HR for Díaz Thursday, April 5th , 2040 Penn State Pride first baseman Fernando Díaz sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little. Prior to the start of today's contest with the Iowa Archers, Díaz told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times. "During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber." The big day from Díaz pushed the Pride past the Archers, 7-1. To go along with the homers, he collected 6 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Díaz told reporters after the game. Fernando Díaz hit a two-run home run off Andrés Cruz in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Andrés Cruz in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off Merrill Durham in the 7th. This season Díaz has delivered 33 hits in 118 at-bats for a .280 average with 5 home runs. He is getting on base at a .333 clip and his totals also include 16 RBIs and 23 runs scored. This year Díaz has played in 31 games. |
