League Suspends Verhaar and Okabe for Brawl Monday, September 6th , 2038 After an intense confrontation, both the Crocodile Hunters Bennie Verhaar and the Stevedores Kuniaki Okabe were handed their punishments today. The league commissioner's office issued suspensions for an on-the-field conflict that occurred at a recent Sunshine Coast-Brisbane game. Bennie Verhaar will miss 5 games, while Kuniaki Okabe was suspended for 6 games. "Sometimes we go too far and have to pay the consequences," Bennie Verhaar commented later. "Hopefully cooler heads will prevail the next time we play." In 75 games this season Verhaar is batting .279 with 73 hits and 15 home runs. He has scored 45 runs and driven in 31. This year Okabe has worked 64.1 innings with 66 strikeouts en route to a 1-7 record and a 4.48 ERA. |
