Islanders Handle Stampede, 9-2

Phil Collins was a major factor in the 9-2 Laval win over Calgary. The Islanders catcher went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Hisashi Ishii notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. His record now sits at 4-2. The win makes Laval 14-36.
The Stampede had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Islanders going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old left fielder Félix Flores came to the plate. Flores hit a 2-run double on a first pitch slider from Calgary hurler Tomás Toledo. It was Flores's 8th double of the year.
"We're in a funk right now," said Calgary skipper Toshiki Soh.
