Prospectors Can't Finish, Lose 4-3
|
The Skagway Prospectors got a sterling performance from pitcher Ken Crawford, but the Angoon Avalanche still prevailed, 4-3. Crawford threw 5.1 innings of 2-hit ball. Pierre de Gilde, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 4th save. Angoon occupies 4th place in the Alaskan League Fisher at 21-27.
Angoon got the win thanks to a clutch hit from José Valdés. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Avalanche ahead, 4-3. Though it was his only hit in 2 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Takesi Ohayashi told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
