Buccaneers Clip Panthers in Tight Contest, 3-1
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the DeSoto Central HS Panthers home opener. Justin Smith started for the home team against Brady Mateo for the Barbe HS Buccaneers. The Panthers were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 3-1, Barbe HS. Brady Mateo, though, was impressive. Ben Schultz picked up the win in relief for Barbe HS, while Arturo Miranda took the loss. The save went to Dan Harris, his 1st this season.
It could have been a different outcome for Barbe HS, had it not been for Fletcher Jackson, the 16-year old third baseman . Jackson contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth inning to put Barbe HS up, 3-1.
Mateo offered a curt "no comment" when asked to discuss the win after the game.
